Join Our Lab

Are you curious about joining us? Kominoski Ecosystem Ecology Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Environment at Florida International University

Explore the Research, Publications, and Data pages of our website. Check out the work of my current and former lab members. Reach out to them directly, as well.

Our research studies how disturbances influence carbon and nutrient cycling in ecosystems, especially at terrestrial-aquatic interfaces. Our research projects extend over multiple decades and include the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research program. Our research is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. We test ecological theory and biogeochemical mechanisms in freshwater and brackish marshes, as well as mangroves. We collect and use long-term data, modeling, and forecasting to test generalizable questions facing ecosystems in the 21st Century.

Prospective students interested in graduate school (Ph.D. in Biology) should contact Dr. Kominoski (jkominos@fiu.edu) 3-6 months prior to the application deadline (December 1). Include your CV, relevant papers or writing sample, and letter describing your experience and research interests. I am currently only accepting PhD students in the lab.
